Sam Taylor-Johnson Directs Film About the Late Singer
Industry Star Marisa Abela Takes on Iconic Role

Last year, it was announced that Sam Taylor-Johnson would helm an Amy Winehouse biopic. Now, Marisa Abela has been cast to play the iconic singer in the film, titled "Back to Black."
Abela is best known for her scene-stealing turn in the HBO series "Industry." She also has an upcoming role in the highly anticipated film "Barbie."
"Back to Black" will tell the story of Winehouse's rise to fame and her tragic death at the age of 27. Taylor-Johnson, who previously directed the critically acclaimed film "Nowhere Boy," said she was drawn to the project because of Winehouse's "unique voice and talent."
"She was a true original," Taylor-Johnson said. "I'm excited to bring her story to the big screen."
Abela said she is "honored" and "terrified" to play Winehouse.
"She was such an incredible talent, and her story is so moving," Abela said. "I hope I can do her justice."
"Back to Black" is set to begin filming in London in March. The film is expected to be released in 2024.
