Aaron Grymes joins Edmonton Elks coaching staff ahead of Labour Day Rematch

Former Elks standout to serve as defensive backs coach

Grymes brings a wealth of experience to the role, having played 11 seasons in the CFL

The Edmonton Elks have added a familiar face to their coaching staff ahead of the Labour Day rematch against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Aaron Grymes, a former Elks standout, has joined the team as the defensive backs coach. Grymes played 11 seasons in the CFL, including eight with the Elks. He was a two-time Grey Cup champion with the team in 2003 and 2005. Grymes also earned CFL All-Star honours three times and was named the league's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2004. After retiring from playing, Grymes began his coaching career with the University of Alberta Golden Bears. He spent four seasons with the Golden Bears, helping them win two Hardy Cup championships. Grymes also spent two seasons as the defensive backs coach for the Calgary Stampeders. Grymes is expected to play a key role in the Elks' defence this season. The Elks have struggled defensively in recent years, but Grymes is confident that he can help turn things around. "I'm excited to be back in Edmonton," Grymes said. "I have a lot of great memories here, and I'm looking forward to helping the Elks win another Grey Cup." The Elks will open the regular season on June 10 against the BC Lions. They will then host the Roughriders in the Labour Day rematch on September 5. * Aaron Grymes played 11 seasons in the CFL, including eight with the Edmonton Elks. * Grymes is a two-time Grey Cup champion and three-time CFL All-Star. * Grymes will serve as the defensive backs coach for the Elks in 2023.
